Meet Coach Dennis Black

Welcome Coach Dennis Black!

He is now leading MIGB Nation from his role as Head Coach for the High School, and will be working with our select teams to build an even stronger program.

Varsity Head Coach – Dennis Black

Dennis Black is in his first season as the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Mercer Island High School.

Black has had an extensive playing and coaching career. He has coached high school boys and girls basketball for over 20 years throughout the Pacific Northwest. Most recently Black was the JV Boys Basketball Coach at Skyline High School in Issaquah, WA and finished the 2017-18 season with a record of 17-3. His most notable coaching experience was when he served as the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Oregon Episcopal School (OES) in Portland, OR for 13 years where led the Aardvarks to two Lewis & Clark League Titles and three Oregon state tournament appearances. He was named Lewis & Clark Coach of the year twice while at OES (2001 & 2008) and was named Emerald City Coach of the Year in 2016 when he was the Head Girls Basketball Coach at The Overlake School in Redmond, WA from 2014-2016. Black was selected to coach the Oregon High School All-Star Team twice in 2004 & 2008.

A native to Los Angeles, CA, Black was a four-year varsity student-athlete in Men’s Basketball for the University of Portland, was drafted in 1984 by the Portland Trailblazes, and played professionally in Costa Rica, France, & London from 1984-1986.

Black lives in Bellevue, WA and has four daughters (Tess, Brigitte, Sydney, & Georgia).
